American President Lines (APL), a subsidiary of Neptune Orient Lines, and SeaLand, a division of Maersk Line, have announced the formation of a Vessel Sharing Agreement (VSA) that introduced a new weekly service branded the ACX by APL and the NAE by SeaLand. The VSA nominated Global Container Terminals (GCT) New York in Staten Island as the terminal operator. The new service will serve ports on both the west and east coasts of Latin America, utilizing Manzanillo International Terminal, Panama as the service’s hub.
GCT NY offers 500 reefer plugs with on-site reefer maintenance and repair capabilities. It operates a Customs Examination Station and agriculture quarantine inspection warehouse while also providing on-site cross-dock container stuffing and stripping. All of these capabilities reduce time and add value and savings to its customers. The terminal is minutes from I-95, I-78, and Routes 1&9.
To service markets in the mid-west and Canada, GCT New York offers on-dock rail service via ExpressRail Staten Island (ESI), which allows for connections to inland destinations served by CSX and Norfolk Southern railroads. As with all existing services at GCT NY, customers have the benefit of the GCT New York Truck Toll Reimbursement Program. Over 1,000 truckers are participating in the program. Bob Nixon, Vice President of Operations at GCT NY commented, “Awarding us this newest service demonstrates both APL’s and SeaLand’s confidence in GCT NY’s proven ability to deliver an efficient product.”
